About Dr. Sanjay Tewari

Dr. Sanjay Tewari joined Missouri S&T as Assistant Teaching Professor in the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering department in August 2018. He received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Surat, M.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Techology Roorkee and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Texas A&M University. Dr. Tewari was previously Assistant Professor Civil Engineering at Louisiana Tech University.

Most of Dr. Tewari's research efforts are focused on drinking water quality and issues related to treatment of wastewater. A variety of separation processes such as physical, chemical, biological and electrochemical are used in his experiments. However, currently he is more focused on capacitive deionization, electrokinetics and electrocoagulation. Various forms of carbon (aerogel, nano-tubes, bio-char, and activated) are being used for studying the separation processes for improving water quality and treatment of wastewater from industrial as well as municipal sources. In addition, his research focuses on in-situ abiotic/biotic remediation, sustainability and resiliency of various systems around us. Recently funded projects have been in the area of application of Geographic Information Systems to environmental management, sustainability and resiliency of infrastructure. A part of his research is focused on flow in pipes and open channels; determinations of various friction factors associated with different pipe/liner materials; causes/effects of salinity in soils; and corrosion of metal pipes.

In addition, Dr. Tewari has strong interest in engineering education related activities. He enjoys teaching various core classes and mentoring students.
