Abstract
Peer-reviewed electronic journals were introduced in 1993 - Online Journal of Current Clinical Trials. Since then the costs of annual increases in licensing electronic resources has far exceeded the annual increases that libraries get. Libraries have had to make hard choice about what to retain so that they can continue to fund specific resources, including big deal packages, many of which are locked into multi-year deals. Several Open Access initiatives have grown out of the need to control these unsustainable costs. This presentation will provide details on new models that incorporate OA into licensing in a effort to transform the scholarly publishing landscape in favor of OA.
