Abstract
Collections policies need regular review and updating to reflect our evolving user environment and collections stewardship responsibilities. For the UMass Amherst Libraries, the most recent collection policy updates were done more than five years ago. With our rapidly evolving collections landscape, incorporating and embracing inside-out models as well as distinctive open collections, the Libraries’ Senior Management Group endorsed a review of collections policies. Additionally, over the past few years, many committees, task forces and working groups have made recommendations that may affect collection policies and should be considered during the review process. Over the course of the Spring 2018 semester, the Collections Policies Working Group (CPWG) reviewed seven policies that were directly related to collections and made recommendations for updating and/or replacing existing policies.
