Abstract

We wish you all a Happy New Year 2019! We are very pleased to share some great news about the Pervasive and Mobile Computing (PMC) journal. Its impact factor has further increased to 2.974. With 500+ submissions and acceptance rate below 20%, PMC is clearly a reference forum for researchers working in the field of pervasive and mobile computing, and it published only papers of highest quality. We are also very pleased to announce that in 2018 we have significantly reduced the paper handling time. The average time for the first notification is now 13.2 weeks as compared to 19.1 weeks in 2017, and the average time from submission to final decision is now 18.4 weeks in contrast with 28.4 weeks in 2017.

To cope with the increased submissions, as well as emerging areas of research in pervasive and mobile computing, yet further reducing the paper handling time, we have recently re-organized and enlarged the editorial board by inviting new experts in several areas covered by the journal. We take this opportunity to welcome ten new members in the PMC editorial board. They are: Chiara Boldrini (IIT-CNR, Italy), Vana Kalogeraki (Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece), Julie A. McCann (Imperial College, UK), Sudip Misra (IIT Kharagpur, India), Gang Pan (Zhejiang University, China), Abusayeed Saifullah (Wayne State University, USA), Flora Salim (RMIT University, Australia), Simone Silvestri (University of Kentucky, USA), Keiichi Yasumoto (Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan), and Moustafa Youssef (Alexandria University, Egypt).

Our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all Area Editors for their hard work and dedication to ensure that the submitted papers are processed in a timely manner and only highest quality papers are recommended for publication in the PMC journal. Special thanks are due to Christian Becker, Tian He, Jadwiga Indulska, Sanjay Madria and Dirk Pesch who completed their service term, as area editors, in 2018.

We also wish to thank the reviewers for their important contributions by providing critical and professional reviews in a timely manner that help the area editors recommend the highest quality papers for publication.

The Elsevier editorial and publication team has been truly outstanding in supporting us through different phases of the publication process. They work very hard to meet the tight production schedule. In particular, our special thanks are due to the Publishing Editor, Telli Faez, for her continuous support to guarantee high standards as expected of the PMC journal, and to the Journal Manager, Iyshwarya Gopinath, for invaluable help in the production process.

Finally, we sincerely appreciate the fine contributions of our growing community of authors and readers. We hope you will continue to contribute to the success of Pervasive and Mobile Computing journal in 2019, and beyond.
