About Rukeia Draw-Hood

Dr. Draw-Hood currently serves as program leader for 4-H & Youth Development at Prairie View A&M University.  She provides statewide leadership and direction for programs, develops plans and policies, provides administrative supervision of staff, reviews and monitors program performance to ensure progress toward goals and objectives.  She has been instrumental in securing over $15 million funding to support agricultural research, extension and education activities in this role.  She has received numerous awards for her work: College of Agriculture & Human Sciences Team Award for Heroes 4-Health (2021),  Prairie View A&M University Staff Award for Cooperative Extension Employee of the Year (2020), Cooperative Extension Program Silent Hero Award (2020), National Urban Extension Leadership 1890 Innovator Team Award for Growing U Project (2020)Cooperative Extension Program Outstanding Support Award for Being Most Resourceful (2018).
Dr. Draw-Hood is widely respected for her national leadership among peers, many contributions to the Cooperative Extension System around racial-ethnic diversity, and lending her technical expertise to international youth development efforts.  Shas held Chairperson and other officer positions for both the Southern and 1890 4-H Program Leader Region Committees.  She has served on the following national working groups: National Program Leaders, Professional Development, and Program Quality & Accountability.  In addition, she was a panelist for the National Positive Youth Development Academy on the Thrive Model through an Equity Lens and an invited speaker for the USDA E-Academy, presenting on Widening the Circle: A Promise to Grow 4-H Through Racial and Ethnic Diversity.  She has been co-chairperson of the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals Board of Directors Ad-Hoc Equity Committee and served on the Youth Development Professional Implementation Team for the National 4-H Equity Strategic Plan. National peer-reviewed presentations include, but are not limited to, “A Smart Engagement Process for Limited Resource Audiences in Extension,” and “Effective Strategies for Engaging Limited Resource and Minority Volunteers in 4-H Programs.” Last, she collaborated with USDA-FAS on Best Practices for Positive Youth Development in the Republic of Georgia.
