AbstractMost of the essays collected in this volume had their origin in the 2000 Congress of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Alberta, Edmonton. The book's stated goal is "to explore the rhetoricality of early Christian discourses and practices around the overarching question of how to account in cogently explanatory terms for the persuasions of and to early Christian groups, ideologies, and practices" (ix).
