About Ronald Helms

Education: B.S. Social Studies Fairmont State University, 1966; M.A. Political Science University of Dayton, 1968; Ph.D. Global Studies Ohio State University, 1972.
 
Dr. Helms taught at Kettering City Schools prior to joining Wright State University. Dr. Helms’ professional experiences include the following: National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Chair, Academic Freedom Committee; Board of Examiners, NCATE; National Teaching American History Grant Program, WSU Project Director; Ohio Council for the Social Studies (OCSS) President, Executive Director, and Conference Chair. Dr. Helms has been a consultant and presenter at over 150 national and international conferences. Dr. Helms is the author 150+ professional journals articles and 25 books.
 
Dr. Helms has also been active in the civic sphere as chair of the Centerville Sister Cities Committee. He was a member of the Centerville – Washington Township Unification Committee, expedition leader with the Boy Scouts of America, coach and referee for Centerville Soccer, several Dayton area ad hoc committees. Dr. Helms is committed to League Tennis at Five Seasons.
 
Dr. Helms has supported several professional associations: Association for Government History, the National Association for Gifted Children, the Ohio Council for the Social Studies, the National Council for the Social Studies, Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation, National Social Science Association, International Assembly of Social Studies Educators, National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, Council on World Affairs, et al.
 
Dr. Helms has been elected to Phi Delta Kappa, Liederkranz German Club, Beta Beta Beta, Kappa Delta Pi, Theta Xi, et al. Dr. Helms is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Sons of American Colonists, Society of Colonial Wars, First Settlers of the Shenandoah Valley, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Order of the First World War, and Order of the Second World War, et al.
 
Dr. Helms’ Travel:  Travels to six continents, Continental U.S. (50 States), Mexico, and Canada, WWI, WWII, and Normandy Study Tour, Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Costa Rica, British Isles, Ireland, Puerto Rico, China, (Delegation Leader, International People to People Program) Hong Kong, Eastern Europe (Delegation Leader, International Sister City Program), Iberian Peninsula, Scandinavia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Chile, Argentina, Morocco, Russia, and the Baltic States. Dr. Helms has plans for several years of upcoming International Travel, as well as annual excursions to Palm Beach, Hilton Head, Newport Beach, Ski sojourns, et al.
