Abstract
The work presents the measurement results of gaseous emissions to the air during burning of selected types of candles and incense, and the assessment of potential impact of these emissions on indoor air quality after the period of 1 hour usage of this type of candles or incense in a closed room. Various kinds of paraffin candles (table, scented and tea light types), and three types of incense were used in the research. The measurements of air pollutant concentrations in flue gases were carried out using a FTIR multiparameter gas analyzer. Among the emitted pollutants, particular attention has been paid to these sub-stances for which air limit or reference values are defined. These values were used to assess the results of calculations of 1-hour air concentrations of analyzed substances determined for a non-ventilated room with a volume of 50 m3 and estimate the candle and incense burning time resulted exceeding these reference values.
