Abstract

Six moderately retarded adolescents with Down's Syndrome participated in a parent-teacher administered behavioral weight reduction program. The program involved graduated exposure to a number of weight reduction techniques combined with external and self-administered reinforcement components over a 19-week treatment and maintenance period. All subjects achieved significant weight loss during treatment and maintenance phases. Twenty-six and fifty-two week follow-ups revealed that weight loss was maintained.
