Congress passed some enhancements to the Child Tax Credit. It's larger now, and will lift millions of people out of poverty. And half of it will be paid in advance, monthly starting on July 15th, rather than waiting until you file your 2021 tax return in 2022. There are glitches for this new program, which is a one-year program but may be made permanent later. For most people, everything will go very smoothly. For a minority, they may need to take action to get the advance payments or to opt-out if they don't want to receive them.
