Abstract
Economic impact payments (stimulus checks) under the CARES Act creates problems for "injured spouses". When a joint return is filed, the entire EIP was retained by the government to apply to a past-due child support obligation, even though only one of the two spouses was liable for that child support obligation (resulting from a prior marriage by the other spouse). The "injured spouses" are encountering significant difficulties getting their portion of the EIP back. It shouldn't be that hard.
