Introduction to Symposium-Multicultural Assessment: Teaching Methods and Competence Evaluation

Abstract

Training for multicultural assessment competence is beginning to be addressed in graduate training programs for professional psychologists. In this introduction to a symposium that presented four culturally sensitive courses, I articulate some communalities and differences as well as evaluation concerns within distinctive program-specific formats. These approaches to assessment training illustrate fidelity in representing our scientific and clinical skills as psychologists coupled with the conviction that culture is now central to our understanding of personality and psychopathology.
