About Richard Leggett, MD

Dr. Richard Leggett is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed a general psychiatry residency training program at the William S. Hall Psychiatric Institute in Columbia, South Carolina where he served as Assistant Chief Resident.  Following residency, Dr. Leggett practiced at several hospitals in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area including HCA Parkridge Hospital and HCA Valley Hospital.  Dr. Leggett and his family relocated to Roanoke, Virginia in 1993 where he  established a solo private practice affiliated with the HCA LewisGale Medical Center in Salem. 
 
Dr. Leggett currently serves as a core faculty member of the LewisGale Medical Center GME-Psychiatry program and on the clinical faculty of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Virginia campus.  He has previously served as a mentor for Physician Assistant students and as a clinical supervisor for Nurse Practitioners.  He is a member of the Southern Medical Association and the Christian Medical & Dental Association Psychiatry Section.  He has previously participated in a number of cross-cultural medical mission trips to Honduras, El Salvador, Romania, and the Middle East.  Dr. Leggett is active in several community organizations including the Gideons International and New Century Church.  He and his wife Angela have 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren.
