About Reshmi Sarkar

Dr. Reshmi Sarkar is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Cooperative Agricultural Research Center (CARC) at PVAMU. With extensive experience in crop simulation modeling, mathematical modeling, soil physics, climate change adaptation practices, and sustainable agriculture, Dr. Sarkar will apply AI and machine learning to climate-smart agriculture in this role.
After earning her Doctorate in Philosophy from Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, she began her career as an Instructor cum Lab Manager at Tarleton State University in 2006. In 2008, she relocated to Missouri and joined Lincoln University as a Postdoctoral Researcher. The following year, she successfully secured a grant as a Soil Physicist and conducted groundbreaking research on studying soil environmental factors using sensors and soil physicochemical parameters with ground-penetrating radar to understand the reasons behind false signals from handheld landmine detectors. Later, she contributed to NSF-funded projects on Climate Smart Agricultural Practices at Auburn University and authored several grant proposals at Texas A&M AgriLife in Overton, TX.
Recently, she earned her second post-graduation in "Applications of Machine-Learning and Artificial Intelligence". She has been fortunate to collaborate with many scientists from the USDA and other universities in the US and Brazil to research intensive and sustainable agricultural practices, and model cropping systems, aiming to improve agricultural management practices and enhance soil health.
