Entropy and Its Relationship to Internal Energy
(2023)
Abstract
This article provides a unique analysis of the relationship between internal energy and entropy based on historical classical thermodynamic fundamentals. The well known Gibbs equation is explored utilizing three numerical examples that lead to a clarifying explanation of the difference between reversible and irreversible expansion of an ideal gas under varying resisting pressure. This in turn leads to a significant equation labeled the Brown equation that relates thermodynamic intensive potentials under what is labelled a universal criteria for equilibrium.
