Abstract

Throughout this volume we have aimed to provide a practical and pragmatic resource to assist professionals in their work with firesetters, firesetting and victims of this powerfully destructive behaviour. The text is divided into four parts: Part I: theories and typologies Part II: legal, investigative and preventative issues Part III: assessment and risk assessment Part IV: treatment, needs and management To aid accessibility, each chapter is summaries by an opening series of key points and by a concluding precis of practice implications. In this opening chapter we orientate the reader to the topic by outlining the key issues in deliberate firesetting as we understand them.
