What is negative theology? The Western origins
Raoul Mortley (1981)

[Extract] Negative theology begins with the speculations of the Greek philosophers. It denotes a method of knowing the transcendent essence of things, called the Good by Plato, the One by the Neoplatonists, and Father by the Christians. It is a method which places its confidence not in affirming, but denying, and therefore constitutes a use of language which is unique.
