About Qizhen Deng

Dr. Qizhen Deng started at Boise State University in 2018 and is currently an assistant professor with the Department of Literacy, Language and Culture. She received her Ph.D. in Educational Studies specializing in Language, Literacy and Culture and her M.A. in Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education both from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Her research broadly focuses on the academic language and literacy development of multilingual learners, and how teacher education can inform the literacy education of those children. Dr. Deng’s professional background includes working with Pre-K through 3rd grade children with diverse backgrounds, teaching preservice teachers focused on working with multilingual learners in elementary classrooms and integrating technology in elementary classrooms, and supervising preservice teachers in the field. Her professional affiliations include the Literacy Research Association, the American Educational Research Association, and the International Reading Association among others.
