About Qin Liu

Dr Qin Liu is Assistant Professor and a Senior Research Fellow at Bond University. She works in the Clem Jones Research Centre for Stem Cells &Tissue Regenerative Therapies (CJRC) in the faculty of Health Science & Medicine. She is leading the main CJRC project to develop a potential treatment for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The CJRC has been awarded 3 million dollars from the Clem Jones Foundation for this project. Dr Qin Liu and her group have been working on engineering retinal tissue derived from human stem cells on appropriate substrates which can be implanted subretinally in order to restore vision in AMD patients.

Dr Qin Liu has a Master’s degree in Molecular Medicine and a PhD in the field of Tissue Engineering. Before she moved to Australia, Dr Liu worked in Germany for the European international project MYJOINT through which she gained significant expertise in regenerative medicine. She has been published in international peer-reviewed journals. Dr Liu also holds a Bachelor’s of Clinical Medicine and worked for several years as clinical doctor in China, which has provided her with excellent translational skills between laboratory research science and applied clinical medicine.
