Pranav Shrotriya earned is BTech in mechanical engeineering from Indian Institutes of Technology-Mumbai in 1995. He then received his MS in theoretical and applied mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1997 and his PhD in theoretical and applied mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2001.
