Abstract

This paper investigates a Zero First-order Ripple (ZFR) inverter topology for integration with distributed energy resources. The proposed ZFR topology is free from first order triangular ripples and will demonstrate minimal sinusoidal ripples. Therefore, ZFR inverters can offer low harmonic distortions utilizing small coupled inductors. Additionally, elimination of electrolyte capacitors in ZFR topologies improves the reliability and life expectancy of the overall system. After the introduction of the ZFR topology, the proposed inverter is modeled and the steady state values of state variables are derived. Lastly, experimental results are provided to evaluate the proposed inverter.
