In this paper, a new reliability metric will be introduced for renewable energy system applications. The proposed reliability definition will be a function of power availability and system failure. Then, a reliability assessment technique based on Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) combined with Monte-Carlo simulation will be proposed. The proposed method is used for on-line reliability monitoring of a Multi-port Power Electronic Interface (MPEI). A power management algorithm is then presented in order to keep Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of the MPEI subsystems between a hysteresis band. Finally, experimental results will be provided in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed on-line reliability assessment technique for power management in the MPEI.
