Review of The Other Henry James by John Carlos Rowe
Modern Philology (2000)
Abstract
John Carlos Rowe's The Theoretical Dimensions of Henry James (Madison, Wis., 1985), one of the three or four most read and cited James books of the 1980s, uses a range of contemporary theoretical approaches to produce highly sophisticated close readings of a number of James's texts. Like his earlier book, Rowe's The Other Henry James offers detailed, nuanced, and persuasive readings of a number of James's texts in the context of the most contemporary critical theoretical paradigm, and as a result, the new book argues quite persuasively just how à propos James is to the latest theoretical views (and vice versa).
