About Philip Kondylis, MD, FACS, FASCRS

Dr. Kondylis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. He earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts where he also completed a National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute student research fellowship.
He completed his general surgery residency at the Yale University-affiliated Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut followed by a colorectal surgery fellowship at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pennsylvania. For 12 years, Dr. Kondylis was a core faculty member of the colorectal surgery program at Saint Vincent and for three years he served as the program director. He is a past president of both the Pennsylvania and Southeast Virginia Societies of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
Dr. Kondylis has given 34 major research presentations and has written 14 peer-reviewed publications. He is a member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, Midwest Surgical Association, and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is a registered investigator with the National Cancer Institute.
Throughout his medical career, Dr. Kondylis has been actively involved in graduate medical education. He is especially excited about the opportunities available within this new program. Rarely does a program director have the opportunity to selectively take past successes and fuse them with new concepts in surgical education to hand-assemble the ideal program.
