Abstract

During the Great War, almost one in five soldiers serving in the American military were born in one of 48 different countries and many ore were the sons of immigrants. In The Long Way Home: An American Journey from Ellis Island to the Great War , award-winning writer David Laskin introduces the reader to 11 of these foreign-born soldiers and one American-born son to foreign-born parents.
