Abstract
Since unification, Germany has become a most interesting land to live in or observe. We are astonished and fascinated by the many historic developments taking place there. Among these perhaps nothing has gained more attention than the growing popularity of neo-Nazi parties, sympathizers, and deeds. It is tempting, however, to try to marginalize this disturbing phenomenon by isolating (in our minds) its alleged causes and consequences within the new eastern Länder where difficult and hopefully temporary socio-economic conditions conjure up this unwanted spectre from the past.
