Abstract
Due to the popularity of traditional music-makers in the commercial music industry, educators can embrace an opportunity to foster the development of music literacy skills while deepening student's connection with our cultural roots. This article presents three songs transcribed by Helen Creighton's Songs and Ballads of Nova Scotia to illustrate how historic repertoires can yield a wealth of fertile teaching resources while advocating our nation's cultural legacy.
