Canadian Folk Music (2012)
  • Peter Fielding, Mahidol University, College of Music
Abstract
The author discusses a best-fit concordance of Canadian folklorist Helen Creighton's book "Songs and Ballads of Nova Scotia" with the curricular topics in the book "Anthology for Sight Singing" by Gary S. Karpinski and Richard Kram. Topics addressed include teaching students to augment the repertoire of an aural skills curriculum, song titles and lyrics in Creighton's collection, and promoting traditional vocal repertoires. Charts are also presented on the grouping of songs by curricular topics.
