About Paul A Butterworth

Paul is the course co-ordinator of the Podiatry program in the School of Health and Human Sciences at Southern Cross University. Paul joined SCU in January 2012. Paul qualified as a podiatrist at La Trobe University in 1997 and has a Master’s degree from Curtin University in 2008.
Prior to taking on the current role at SCU, Paul worked in a range of clinical roles, including community health, public and private hospital appointments and was an associate lecturer and clinical supervisor at La Trobe University. Paul completed his 6 year foot and ankle surgery fellowship with the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons in 2011. During his fellowship, Paul completed residencies at the Great Western Hospital in the UK and Dekalb Medical Center in the USA, both renowned for their foot and ankle training programs.
Paul is dedicated to research: results of a prospective 12 month audit on infection rates in foot surgery were published in in the Australian Health Review in 2010; research assessing the success of cortisone injections for Morton’s Neuroma has recently been presented at scientific conferences. Paul is currently undertaking his PhD assessing the association between obesity and musculoskeletal foot disorders. His first piece of research from his PhD has been published in Obesity Reviews in 2012. Paul has also been actively involved in the development of the new Bachelor of Health Science (Podiatry) which commenced at SCU in 2013.
