About Paul G. Crowley

Fr. Crowley, a graduate of Stanford (BA) and Columbia (MA), received his Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, where he studied under Fr. Michael J. Buckley, S.J.  He also pursued studied at Union Theological Seminary in New York and the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies in Toronto, and later at the Jesuit School of Theology, where he earned the STL.   He joined the Santa Clara faculty in 1989, and has also served as visiting professor at Weston Jesuit School of Theology (now Boston College School of Theology and Ministry), the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, and Stanford.  His research focuses on the intersection of systematic theology and modern thought.  A former department chair, he has served on the governing boards of the Catholic Theological Society of America, and of the journal Theological Studies.  In 2015 he was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Theological Studies. Fr. Crowley retired in June 2020 and passed away on August 7, 2020.
