Abstract
Describes a Robert Burns autograph manuscript (recently acquired for the G. Ross Roy Collection at the University of South Carolina), which provides the first evidence that Burns had read Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire; transcribes the passages he copied out; and briefly assesses their significance for Burns.
