What Are Challenged Books About?
Association of College and Research Libraries (2017)

Abstract
By utilizing Voyant Tools to analyze the ALA’s published lists of 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books by Decade for the 1990s and 2000s, I was able to create an understanding of the trends in content of these books. Although there were shared themes between the decades (African Americans and females), each decade had unique content challenged. The 1990s challenges were significantly about males (fathers/men/teenage boys), sex instruction, and LGBTQ topics. However, the 2000s books were about schools, teenage girls, and problems (emotional/family).
