Abstract

A straightforward Fourier-transform approach to light-sound interaction assuming a bounded sound column and a light beam of arbitrary initial profile is employed. The formalism includes effects of propagational diffraction during the acousto-optic interaction process. A Gaussian beam input with plane wavefronts and a focussed Gaussian beam are considered as typical illustrations of our general approach.
