Abstract
Poster presentation at the American Counseling Association Conference

As the need for cross-cultural counseling skills continues to grow, counselors-in-training can participate in international sojourns led by their counseling programs, including here at Idaho State University. More and more counseling programs are offering study abroad experiences as a part of counselor training. Despite the growth of international opportunities and the emphasis on multicultural development and social justice advocacy, the counseling literature is lacking in information to provide a strong foundation and basis for this type of coursework. This poster will discuss the purpose of study abroad integration in counselor education, students’ experiences of traveling abroad, and outline ideas at how CSI chapters can promote research from a student’s perspective in this area.
