About Pamela Barber-Freeman

As a Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling at Prairie View A&M University. Dr. Freeman has been a faculty member at PVAMU since August 2000. Previously, she has served as an Associate Professor in Mathematics Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at Mississippi State University for seven years (1993-2000); a Counselor and Director of the Educational Opportunity Center at Rose State College (1985-1988); and a math teacher in Millwood Public Schools (1972-1985). She has taught ethnically diverse mathematics students at various educational levels (grades 6-12, community college and doctoral-granting universities) since 1972.
She was selected one of 60 professors nationwide to become a Certified Consultant for Gender Equity in Math, Science and Technology by the Teacher Education Equity Project (funded by NSF for CUNY) whose goal is to increase females’ relatively low level of participation in mathematics, science, and technology. She was also selected one of 60 professors from around the world for certification to be a GLOBE Trainer; and, one of 60 professors invited to participate in the 2003 Congressional Children’s Caucus Members’ Briefing: Closing the Achievement Gap, which was held in Washington D. C. In addition, Dr. Freeman served as a reviewer and Evaluator for NSF and a reviewer for NASA and the USDE, President of Research Association of Minority Professors (RAMP). She is the co-author of five books; and she has published several articles on STEM, gender equity in STEM professions, Microaggression, leadership mentoring program, and increasing the number of African American male teachers.
