Dr. Ownby's research interests include the following: Nucleation, adsorption and desorption, work functions, interfacial energy; Crystal growth, crystallographic dependence of surface phenomena and epitaxy; High density poly-crystalline and amorphous solids; Atmosphere control; Boron and boron compounds; Simulation of crystal surfaces; High purity non-clay slip casting; Sessile drop interface studies; Physical property enhancement of ceramic matrix composites; Diamonds, Diamond Polytypes and graphite; Vitreous silica and silicon optical properties; Reaction and amorphization milling; Beta alumina electrolyes; Fabrication techniques; Infrared Transmission of Silicon and Germanium; Boron Isotope Separation Techniques
