About Orla McCormack Dr

Orla McCormack is a qualified science teacher who has worked in initial teacher education since 2003. She joined the Department of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Limerick as a lecturer in 2009.
Orla lectures on modules called Curriculum Studies and Curriculum Policy and Reform studies, which is taken by all undergraduate and graduate diploma pre-service teachers at the University of Limerick. This module encourages pre-service teachers to examine Irish post-primary curriculum through a critical lens and to explore the role of the teacher as change agent!
Orla's PhD involved an examination of the views and attitudes of a national sample of 1915 parents and a sample of journalists towards the exploration of masculinities with young men at senior cycle.
Since joining the Department of Education and Professional Studies, Orla has worked on a variety of different projects. For example, Orla is currently involved in a European Commissioned TEMPUS study entitled 'Education for Sustainable Development beyond the Campus'.
Her research interests include Curriculum, Gender and education with a particular focus on masculinities, Social, Personal and Health Education, Sexualities, Education for Sustainable Development and Reflective practice.
Orla has reviewed for a number of journals including Teacher and Teacher Education, Gender and Education and the Journal of Men's Studies
