Abstract
The current design practice of sheet pile walls are based on horizontal force and moment equilibrium using active and passive earth pressures. The methods consider soils only in direct contact with the wall to determine the pressures, and do not take into account the effect of existing ground surface profile and conditions below the wall. However, the initial ground and sub-wall soil conditions affect the wall behavior and deformations. The effect of ground conditions and varying sub-wall soil conditions on the behavior of sheet pile walls are presented in this paper.
