Blue Lives Matter rings hollow because police lives already matter. It’s codified into law. They generally matter more than the lives of civilians, with most states having special penalties for assaulting or killing a law enforcement official. And they matter much more than the lives of black civilians, who are often murdered with impunity. So, if so-called “Blue Lives” already matter and have special legal protections, and black lives, not so much, what is this Blue Lives Matter movement really about? And what does this flag really represent?
