The European Case Law Identifier (ECLI) has been introduced in Cyprus, pursuant to the Council Recommendations and applied to all courts’ case law. This article, by the director of the EU-funded implementation project (CyECLI), presents the details and new standards introduced and considers the benefits and challenges involved. ECLI implementation in Cyprus is connected to the broader efforts to modernise and reform the administration of justice system. It will facilitate case law access, achieve uniform citation of case law and introduce, for the first time in Cyprus, a comprehensive system of metadata.
