  • Nidhi Mahendra, California State University, East Bay
Abstract
This presentation showcases the development of an innovative, learner-centered curriculum on healthy aging and dementia for graduate students in the Speech Pathology program at California State University East Bay. This course features a strong foundation of multiculturalism, evidence-based practice, and community-based service learning. We emphasize the critical importance of these concepts for teaching future providers how to competently serve culturally and linguistically diverse seniors. We will present information on course organization, signature instructional activities, learning outcomes, and data on student perceptions of competencies acquired. We will provide essential information to discuss the salience of multiculturalism, evidence-based practice, and community-based service learning in this course.
