Abstract

In the current paper an application of the genetic algorithms method is attempted for the solution of the classic problem of excavation dewatering with the use of pumping wells, a problem which has already been solved with the use of linear and non-linear programming. For the development of the management model the embedded method is used in order to combine the simulation and the optimization models. The comparison of the effectiveness of the different optimization methods, taking into consideration parameters such as the time needed for the problem to be solved and the accuracy of the results, provide interesting conclusions regarding the use of genetic algorithm as an optimization technique for non-linear problems.
