Developing Total Flood Warning Systems
(2017)
  • Neil Dufty
Abstract
This book describes a holistic and integrated method to assess and design effective flood warning systems. Aptly named the ‘Total Flood Warning System’ (TFWS) approach, it has been used by the author for several communities, particularly in the state of Victoria, Australia. However, although he draws mainly from his Australian TFWS experience for this book, the TFWS approach could be used to effectively warn any flood-prone community throughout the world.

The approach described in the book extends on that promoted by the Australian Government for the development of a TFWS. The extension mainly involves mechanisms to better understand and promote community response, encourage community participation in the development of the local TFWS, and to integrate the components of the TFWS.

The book will assist in the development of improved flood warning systems, not only in Australia, but around the world.
