"Dr. Patel felt comfortable with her service that provided childless couples with children born through international commercial gestational surrogacy and gave poor Indian women serving as surrogates the chance to make what they view as a substantial amount of money. Many governments viewed the practice as unethical and declared it illegal while others that accepted the propriety and legality of the service were troubled by possible exploitation of poor women as surrogates.
