Abstract
Virtual reference has grown from a topic of largely theoretical conversation to a very real and increasingly basic library service. Libraries have a growing number of options for providing virtual reference services viz building a platform from scratch, using a specialized software package, or adopting a general tool such as instant messaging (IM).Constant innovation and improvement, key for the continuation of any field, are especially true for virtual reference.
