This presentation focuses on the value and importance of education and the growing student debt in today's U.S. economy. In the U.S., nearly 20 million Americans attend college each year. Of that 20 million, close to 12 million -or 60%- borrow annually to help cover costs. There are approximately 37 million student loan borrowers with outstanding student loans today. From students' perspective the debate is whether education is worth investing in it or not. Using the basic capital budgeting techniques and the actual U.S. data, this study concludes that higher education in the U.S. has a high positive net present value and a high internal rate of return.
