Abstract

This study investigates the effects of government spending on education on labor productivity in Iran from 1959-2007, using dynamic Ordinary Least Squares (DOLS) and 2SLS methods. The main finding of the paper indicates that there is no significant effect, if not negative, of education expenditures on productivity of labor in Iran. The effectiveness of such expenditures is undermined by the weak quality of economic and political institutions in the Iranian economy.
