About Monica Seger

Professor Seger’s scholarship and instruction weave together several strands of interest: contemporary Italian literature, film and media; gender studies; and the environmental humanities—a field engaged with representations of the relationship between the human and “more-than-human” world. She admires the interdisciplinary nature of her courses and finds inspiration within her dynamic and diverse students. For Seger, the classroom is a place of open dialogue, inclusivity, and mutual respect for thoughts and lived experiences. In addition to having served on the Executive Committee of the American Association of Italian Studies for the past three years, Seger is currently a W&M Sallie Gertrude Smoot Spears Term Distinguished Associate Professor.
