As an educator, scholar and an administrator, Dr. Mohammad Noori has over 27 years of
working in academia and has been a pioneer in establishing innovative
industry-university-government and global partnerships. Noori has long been an advocate
for collaboration, innovation and multi-disciplinary study and throughout his career, he
has been honored with numerous recognitions for his teaching and research. His most
recent recognitions include the great honor bestowed upon Cal Poly by President Obama,
when Cal Poly was recognized on February 8, 2012, at the White House, “ as a leading
school in the retention and graduation of engineering students.” This recognition was the
result of the innovative retention and outreach programs developed during his tenure as
the Dean of Engineering. Also, he has just been awarded the Isadore T. Davis National
Award for Excellence in Collaboration of Engineering Education and Industry, by the
American Society for Engineering Education, that was presented at the ASEE Annual
Conference in San Antonio, Texas on June 13, 2012
His area of research is in random vibrations, multifunctional and intelligent structures,
structural health monitoring, and seismic hazard mitigation. He has served as the
department head at two nationally recognized doctoral institutions and as the dean of
engineering at a leading mainly undergraduate university. He has spearheaded, or
participated in, the creation of industry-university-government consortia, and has
developed visionary global collaborations.Dr. Noori has initiated and facilitated
innovative interdisciplinary project-based undergraduate and graduate programs through
engaging industry in developing undergraduate projects, innovative curriculum, graduate
fellowships, applied research, founding industry project centers, and outreach programs.
He has also led, or participated in the development of, several successful strategic
planing efforts for academic institutions and other organizations. He has also served on
several external advisory boards, as an expert witness, and as an external evaluator for
the assessment of undergraduate and graduate programs. His exemplary collaborative
efforts have resulted in educating a better-rounded engineering workforce, have inspired
innovation, and have resulted in enhancing the learning, scholarship and engagement
practices within the national engineering education community.
