About Dr. Mitchell Parry

Dr. Mitch Parry joined the computer science faculty at Appalachian State University in 2012 after spending five years as a postdoc in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory University and Georgia Tech working on projects involving imaging, visualization, biomarkerdiscovery and quality control. He has become an expert in applying computational techniques to problems in music, chemistry, biology, biomedical informatics and other fields.

Parry particularly enjoys interdisciplinary projects with peers in the arts and sciences. One of his research areas focuses on separating underlying source signals from mixed-sensor recordings. He collaborates with Dr. Rahman Tashakkori on the investigation of honeybee colony collapse in creating a hive monitoring system to obtain audio/video recordings to better understand honeybee behavior. He also has contributed to social media research by collaborating with Dr. Sarah Beth Hopton on data mining of Facebook posts to better understand how stakeholders relate to non-profit organizations.
